Students learn the 35 topics essential to today's modern police officer. These topics will be covered through extensive classroom lectures and hands-on experiences. Some of the exciting topics explored in classroom instruction include: History of Policing; Ethics; U.S. and Texas Constitution and Bill of Rights; Criminal Justice System; Code of Criminal Procedure; Arrest, Search and Seizure; Penal Code; Traffic; Texas Alcohol Beverage Code; and many others. All students in the Academy also will participate in driving exercises designed to improved pursuit skills, firing range shooting drills, and search and seizure activities.
