Walk, stroll, bike or jog – however you do it, you should experience one of the city’s coolest art events on Saturday, November 22. More than 150 artists in downtown’s Warehouse District will open up their studios, exhibition spaces and even their homes for the 16th Annual ArtCrawl.
The
free ArtCrawl gets underway at 10 a.m. and runs through 8 p.m. giving
people a chance to see a variety of contemporary artworks and allowing the
artists a chance to talk about their pieces with the public. You can download the map
and begin your “crawl” at any spot on the tour. If you
get hungry, take a break at nearby Last Concert Café, which is expanding its hours on Saturday to accommodate crawlers (as always, remember to knock on the red door).
Some of the spaces in this year’s crawl include MotherDogStudios, Isolation Gallery &
Studio, Erie City Iron Works and Elder Street Artists Lofts. Look online for a more extensive list of participants.
Be sure to make time for many
of the ongoing exhibitions on display – at DiverseWorks Art Space you can check out
their latest exhibition, Thrive, which looks at the notions
of time through 16 notable women artists from Houston. And at Canal Street Gallery, you can explore the work of Leandra Di Buelna Jr. And head over to Sam Houston Park where Via Colori, a fantastic street-painting festival scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, will be underway.
Nearly two dozen different warehouse buildings will be open to the public for the event and, of course, you should bring your checkbook in case anything catches your fancy.
