Chase away the summer doldrums
by doing something totally unexpected during your lunch hour or after a tough
day at work.
Stick a beach towel in your briefcase
and head to Discovery Green, where you can take off your shoes and splash your toes in the
misting fountain before relaxing with a tasty early evening cocktail at
Tree House
or The Grove.
Or act like a kid and get all wet at the Downtown Aquarium’s dancing fountain (where you can also ogle some tigers and ride a
Ferris wheel).
Check out Discover Houston’s Broomstick Adventure tours, which are certain to give your summer
evening a much-needed chill. The tours get started at Spaghetti
Warehouse and they give you a close-up look at some of downtown’s
spooky haunts. For a more urbane experience, try our self-guided public art
tour and see a totally different side of
Houston’s center.
Sometimes, however, all your soul really craves is a
moment of peace. The gazebo in Sam Houston Park, the reading
rooms at Discovery Green and the truly lovely Sisters
of Charity Park at Joseph Parkway and
LaBranch are just some of downtown’s spots for quiet
meditation. Find more here, including a listing of houses of worship downtown
has nearly
a
dozen.
